Class offerings are limited at this prime gardening time, as I’m more likely to be found out under the sun. I am however, already looking forward to a round of classes in the fall. Herbal Kitchen: Growing & Using Culinary Herbs

In this class we will learn about the culinary and medicinal uses of beautiful, easy to grow herbs. Beginning in the garden, we’ll discuss how to grow, harvest, dry and store the herbs, before moving into the kitchen to transform them into a variety of healthy and delectable dishes. Join me on a journey that will expand your garden possibilities and spark new ideas for working with a variety of herbs to optimize their flavor and medicinal benefits. Medicine Making Basics

This is the class you’ve all been asking for. Through interactive, hands-on processes, we’ll learn about several methods of extracting the best medicine from fresh and dry herbs. You’ll come away wealthy with experience, samples and recipes for tinctures, infused oil, vinegar, and as always, the very best tea!

Cordial Crafting

Practice the ancient art of preserving herbs in alcohol with a cordial twist of sweetness, as we make medicine not only for the body but for the senses. These traditional beverages were sipped after a meal to encourage digestion and extend the enjoyment of company. We will creatively craft cordials with the individual intentions of not only improved digestion, but perhaps of rejuvenating energy, opening to love, or to invoke peaceful tranquility.
Bring a bottle of your favorite liquor (Brandy, Vodka, etc..) and any particular herbs you’d like to work with. Other herbs and supplies will be provided.
Salve from Seed

Sourcing many of the ingredients from our own gardens, we’ll work with the *simple* alchemy of heat & time to transform all natural, simple ingredients into luxurious skin soothing salves, creams, and lip balm. This is a great opportunity to take a leap of independence from commercially produced body products, engage your creativity, and take pride in the creation of a useful, beautiful gift to self or a loved one. Take home the knowledge that keeps on giving, as you can use these skills to create holiday gifts for generations. All materials will be provided, although if you would like to re-use some small jars, or if you have an infused oil you would like to use, feel free to bring em along.
Classes are offered in my North Oakland Herb’n Garden and Kitchen. I try to price my classes as a rate which both makes them accessible and also values the time, expertise and resources required to create quality classes. Please contact me if you’d like to attend a class and have any concern about financing or if you’d prefer to offer something other than currency in exchange for attendance. I am able to offer a limited number of spaces as trade and would love to honor YOUR skills and resources.
